Welcome to the Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center! The Arts and Crafts Center is here to encourage your interest in and enjoyment of the visual arts of the Alleghany Highlands, and to have some fun in the process. We hope you will take a moment to explore our gallery exhibits, take part in an event or class, and stroll through The Center Shop.
We have a small professional and a large number of dedicated volunteer so the Center is also a great place to learn more about other fun things going on in the Alleghany Highlands. We represent more than 260 working artist and crafts people who work with everything from oil and watercolor to baskets and wood;and a whole lot in between! It has all been made by hand and juried or selected for its originality , good design and fine craftsmanship. We also have regularly changing gallery exhibits. Whether you want to learn how to paint, draw, needle felt or just explore your own creativity, we have classes and workshops for a wide variety of ages throughout the year. We live in a beautiful part of Virginia and hope you will enjoy both our community and the Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center.
Everything in our Center is made by hand and has been juried and selected for its originality, good design and fine craftsmanship. We currently have work by more than 260 artists and crafts people in almost every media, including: baskets, pottery, oils, watercolor, jewelry, prints, collage, wood, wearable and decorative fiber, cards, drawings, photography, glass, and sculpture.

When you visit in person, you’ll find volunteers happy to tell you about our artists, help you learn more about the area and find other interesting things to see and do in the Highlands. This is a beautiful part of Virginia. We hope you will enjoy both The Alleghany Highlands and the Arts and Crafts Center. Admission to the Center is free and we are handicapped accessible.
A 501 (c)(3) organization, The Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center is supported by its members, contributors, the Town of Clifton Forge, the City of Covington, the County of Alleghany, The Alleghany Foundation, the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. We believe the arts make all our communities stronger and livelier.
We have both paid staff and many volunteers from the Highlands; their skills make it possible for us to keep our doors open every day. We are closed Sundays/Mondays January-April, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the first part of January for inventory and maintenance.
We have visitors from more than 45 states and about 30 international locations each year. Your signature with a home town in the guest book will let us add this information, so be sure to sign in when you visit. Come for a visit and join the fun!
